A lot of work & a little play

We have been beyond busy these last few weeks trying to get things up and running at the dance studio, so I thought it was time for a quick update. Emory has been talking up a storm (conveniently when I have a massive headache from working on the computer all day) and she's got quite the repertoire of words she loves.
She drinks "wawa" from her cup and splashes in the "wawa" in the bath tub.
She waves "hiiiiiii" in a completely southern belle way to each and every person she sees. As soon as you acknowledge her she blows you a big sloppy kiss, then immediately tells you "bye bye". It does quite a number on the little old ladies at the grocery store.
Aaron practices her animal noises with her:
What does a puppy say? "ru ru ru ru"
What does a sheep say? "baaaaa" (Again, with a very thick southern drawl.)
What does a snake say? "sssssss"
What does a cow say? "oooooooo" (She forgets the "m" most of the time.)
She's very good at shaking her head "yes" and "no". The "no" usually comes with a raging temper, however.
While my child seems to be right on track with her fine motor skills, she just doesn't seem to want to stand on her own or walk. She pulls up on everything and cruises along every wall, piece of furniture or person she can find, she just doesn't seem to want to put forth the effort to do it alone. Maybe she's just lazy?
We finally had to put up the really ugly metal gate at the top of the stairs, and she is often found standing at the gate, staring down the stairs looking at absolutely nothing.
If I'm really desperate to get something done, or we're just relaxing in the bed first thing in the morning, Emory LOVES to watch tv. She's already a Remote Hog and constantly changes the channel.
Okay, in a moment of bad parenting, I decided I was going to MAKE Emory walk. I moved the island out of the middle of the kitchen to give her plenty of room. I even let her hold onto her toy and off she went...
...for about 6 seconds. Then she just wanted to walk on her knees the rest of the way. This is what happens when you try and make a 13 month old walk when she doesn't want to. I decided to give up. I figure she'll start walking when she realizes that everyone is making fun of the kindergartner that still crawls everywhere. So then she was allowed to just play.
Her new smile is very...well, squinty. I don't know where she learned it, but it's her new thing. It's one of those "it's cute because it's your kid" things, but really it's not cute. Well, maybe just a little. :)

She is SUCH a sweet little girl! We really need to get together the next time we are in Columbia. I think Julie might be coming home in Sept, so maybe we can coordinate it then. Also, I love your new blog background, so I had to get one for myself!

She is cute no matter whose kid she is! Loving the picture of her with the remote--I think we're parenting a couple of control freaks! We miss you!

I love that smile--that is just the most adorable thing! I can't wait to see her soon. She is so close to walking, I'm sure she'll be doing it on her own when we see ya'll at the end of the month! Soooo cute:)!
