Random zoo fact #1: There are some weird people that frequent our zoo. I don’t know why it surprises me each time (seeing as we go fairly often) but it does. It’s not usually a big deal, but when the zoo gets crowded during special events I get a little claustrophobic amongst the large masses of odd folk. Sorry, but it’s true.
Random zoo fact #2: Evening events at the zoo make for terrible pictures. I’m a hater of flash photography, but sometimes I’m not sure which is worse: getting the shot but with poor I-used-the-flash quality, or not getting the shot at all. I have an external flash with a diffuser, which is a decent solution, but I usually forget to bring it, and when I remember, the stupid batteries are dead. All that to say, sorry for the bad pictures.
On with the show.
When we got to the zoo, we realized Watson’s had ‘spit-up’ in his carseat. He was acting fine so we thought he might have just gagged on his milk he was drinking. We bundled up to make our way around the zoo to look at the lights, stopping first at the big tree with ‘dancing’ lights.
Them we made our way into the reptile and fish houses.
Watson was amazed. The entire time.
I think I’m gonna have to come to grips with my disdain of these sorts of animals. Because I’ve got a lot of years of little boys being interested in creepy crawly things. Yuck.
And finding Nemo is always a favorite…
Boland is usually stuck watching from his stroller {hence the bare feet} but Daddy took him out and let him see the fish up close.
A stop at the elephants {at night, this is as close to seeing an elephant as you can get. another reason I prefer the zoo during the day.}…
Watson kept asking to see the goats, but then got a little nervous once he was face to face with one.
And then we played in the snow! Which was really a nasty bubble mixture, but the kids couldn’t have cared less.
We pushed the stroller under the ‘snow’ for just a minute so Boland could enjoy it too. And he did for a second, then I think it just weirded him out.
We said hello to the gorilla…And the butterfly…
And the lions at the entrance. My kids REALLY believe these are the lions from The Lion King. I feel bad telling them they’re not!
Not my favorite event at the zoo, but one my kids look forward to each year, so it’s always fun. We loaded the kids back in the car, headed home, and had just made it through the back door when Watson threw up again. Poor thing had a stomach bug and we never would have known it {other than the fact he was throwing up, of course}. Luckily it was short!
