A Happy Valentine's Day

Em and I have made a little habit of eating breakfast in bed for the past couple of months. It's actually very sweet to cuddle with her while she's distracted by food and Noggin (she's not so much in the cuddle-by-choice stage anymore!). For Valentine's Day I had gone to Target to get just a few little things I knew she would love. The kid needs not one more stinkin' thing (toy-wise, clothing-wise, nothing) so I hit the "dollar spot" and toy section and found a couple little things that I knew she was into right now: a foam Elmo book (for the record: I hate anything "character" related, but somehow she has fallen in love with Elmo, and she's never even seen Sesame Street. odd.), a bubble "tumbler" that doesn't spill, some bath paint, a little playdoh set and of course a singing card (which, by the way, was $6!!! Yikes!). I also made her a cute little crayon roll to hold her crayons. I set everything out on her tray with her breakfast, and knew she would be so surprised to see toys along with her food. After all my hard work to make a fun little V-Day treat, Daddy plops down a jewelry box on the tray! Not even for me...for Emory! I felt defeated. Argh.

The first treat she went for was the Elmo book, but notice that her mouth is already full. She went for the food first!
Then she tried out her crayon roll by coloring on the back of her card.
Then she wanted to open the "real" gift. She can already tell what's "filler" loot and what's valuable! No good for me.

What a sweet Daddy! He surprised us both by starting an "add-a-pearl" neclace for her! And you can't really tell in the picture, but it's not the one's from when I was a kid. They are actually 6mm pearls so that by the time it's full (when she's older) it's actually an adult looking neclace, not tiny pearls. Hypothetically, these would be exactly what she'd wear on her wedding day, but since we're never letting her leave us, wearing them to church will have to do. Good job Daddy!

You've got to let that kid watch Sesame Street! It's the only thing Gracie will watch, and it's seriously entertaining! :o) I'm totally on the same page with the character thing, but there's something about that "Melmo." Why do they love him so much?
