All three kids started school on three different days this year. It was mostly chaotic, but kinda nice that they each got some special attention, which is not the norm around here.
Watson will be attending the preschool three days a week {Monday, Wednesday and Friday} and is in class with his best little buddy, William! We’ll miss lots of the kids from his class last year, but luckily they’re pretty much all together on the playground daily. He is going into the Two’s just before he’s three, whereas Emory turned two just before she went into the Two’s, so it’s a whole different ballgame. He’s already potty trained and knows most of his ‘basics’ (colors, shapes, counting, etc) so I’m interested to see what he learns this year being one of the oldest in his class. If nothing else, I hope he gets a continued lesson in patience and kindness, as we can always use a little more of that around our house!
He had a wonderful first day. An easy drop-off and then stayed for lunch and nap and then went home with his friend William. What an ‘ole pro!
After being on the waiting list for two years {there must have been a big baby boom when he was born!}, Boland finally got into school two days a week. He’ll be going to the Toddler II room on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is the same room Watson was in last year, so we’re familiar with {and love!} his teachers, which is great. At this age they grow so much during the year that I know I’ll be mesmerized by how much he changes by the end of school!
His little friend, Owen, is in his class, and they both had a rough start Tuesday morning. Lots and lots of tears! But by pickup, they got great reports from their teachers!
Today was Emory’s first day and she could not have been more excited! She is officially a kindergartener which means she’ll be staying at school full day. I know I couldn’t delay the inevitable, but I’m just not convinced she’s ready to be that grown up yet! She’s newly five, which makes her one of the youngest in her grade and it’s during these big transitions {like losing a nap} that I can tell. Luckily her first few days will still be noon dismissals, so we’ll ease our way into ‘big school’. She’s in class with her good friend Rosie, so she’s beyond happy about that. We had a home visit from her teacher during the summer, as well as attended the orientation yesterday, and her teacher seems to be phenomenal, so I think we’re gonna have a fantastic year!
She was up and at ‘em early this morning. She ate her oatmeal, dressed herself and seemed thrilled to get to school. There was a moment of shyness when we dropped her off in the carpool lane, but she quickly flashed a smile, said ‘I love you’ and waved goodbye. I think my Baby Girl grew up in that very instant. Once she was back in the car after pick-up, she couldn’t stop talking about all the different {fun!} things she did. If today was any indication of the rest of the year, I think she’ll be devastated to leave Kindergarten when the year is over!
May the Lord continue to watch over and comfort them, and bless their wonderful teachers with the wisdom to be Godly examples during this school year and always.
