This week we celebrated Boland’s half-birthday! Hard to believe we’ll be celebrating his second birthday in just six short months. And as a family of six no less. Crazy. He may not have realized what it meant for it to be his birthday, but homeboy appreciates a big ‘ole {half} cake sitting on his highchair! {We think he ate the bottom inch of this candle as I took pictures. Mom of the year.}
And Emory begged to have her picture taken with her baby brother. Not that she doesn’t love her other brother, but she feels a special need to take care of, and love on, her baby Boland.
He reciprocates and shares his cake.
Post-bath towel time is my fave…
As is this lovely heart-shaped bamboo plant that Emory picked out for me for Mother’s Day. Gotta love a gift with a good story. Oh- and pink rocks.
We spent Mother’s Day afternoon celebrating Mimi at Mimi and Papa’s house. The kids played hard and drank lots of chocolate milk, so Watson crashed shirtless once we got in the car to head home. He also slept the entire 20 minute ride biting his lower lip and he had cute little buck-tooth indentations on his chin when we got home.
We headed to the Koger Center Monday and Tuesday for dress rehearsals and the year-end dance Recital. This year Emory took four classes, which meant four crazy costume and hair changes, class pictures, rehearsals and performances on the stage. I thought it was crazy just owning the studio, but it turns out it’s much harder being the backstage mommy! She posed with Grandmama before her tap rehearsal began.
Then she posed with Taylor before jazz…
Smiling with Emory Anne and Walker in their acrobatics costumes…
And one last picture with Mommy before she went onstage for ballet.
I was so busy with my own students backstage that I wasn’t able to watch most of her rehearsals, but I did catch a few seconds of her tap dance.
I had Watson’s portrait made earlier in the spring and got some great pictures. The ‘good’ pictures were ordered for my house and for Mother’s Day gifts, but there were a few that were keepers {and soooo Watson’s personality} that I didn’t want to forget. Case in point.
After the big show on Tuesday night, Emory {and her good friend Rosie} received their three year trophies. I still can’t believe they’re old enough to have been dancing that long!
We had a day of constant rain, and even though I wanted to stay home and lounge, we had things we had to get out of the house and do, so we suited up. I loved that Watson’s day was made better, not worse, by the downpour. He’s all boy. 100%. And I love it.
Daddy headed out of town for a fishing trip,which was bad timing, because I tried a new lasagna recipe that was delicious! A yummy meat sauce that simmers in the crock pot, then a quick assembly with no-bake noodles, and a family favorite was born!
Potty training is just around the corner with school ending next week, so we’ve stocked up on big boy undies. We headed to the doctor for the boys’ well visits and Watson insisted on taking his Superman underwear to show his pediatrician.
After a morning at the doctor’s office and a few days of rainy weather, the boys snuggled back in Mommy and Daddy’s bed for a morning movie.
Which was great, because Mommy really needed some time to herself. And this was the result. An angel sleeve top for Emory. My first sewing project if a loooong time. And it felt good.
