this week {from my phone}

Thank the Lord for a slow week. Finally! This has been our first week of the summer not having to be anywhere at 9am, so we spent most of our days in our pj’s just playing around the house. It was so nice. At least until lunchtime, when the kids were starting to drive me nuts. Luckily I can still stick everybody down for naps or rest and get some quiet time.

My kids… all three of them… love to play dress up. Sometimes it’s a must that we have the correct dress or jacket with the matching shoes or accessory. Other times it’s a free for all and we end up with a Madeline/ballerina/cowgirl and a fireman/superhero/cowboy.

IMG_6116After a birthday party Friday afternoon, the big kids headed to spend the night with Grandmama and Granddaddy, so Boland joined Aaron and I for a date night. I was craving guacamole, so we headed to Cantina, where Boland enjoyed dipping his lime wedges in the guac. Whatever keeps him quiet!IMG_6120Sunday we made our normal trip to Yumilicious after lunch…IMG_6128Only this time Kit joined us. {We had to pretend order for Kit. She is an official member of our family now. It’s actually exhausting.}IMG_6129I’ve logged in a good many hours at my sewing machine this summer. I’ve been happy with most all of the new patterns I’ve tried, with the exception of baby gowns. I’ve searched high and low for a good pattern for a simple day gown, and most of them have been a bust. Not wanting to give up, I took the plunge and tried my hand at sewing knits. It was extremely frustrating at first and it took a while to get the hang of, but I think I finally found a pattern I like!IMG_6133And I had just enough scrap material to make a matching hat. Cuteness overload. IMG_6135And because baby’s gender is unknown and I’m sewing for both boy and girl, my machine saw a lot of pretty pink ruffles this week too.IMG_6137And this one is finally starting to talk our ears off. It’s bittersweet, seeing as how I had just recently talked to his pediatrician about worries of him not talking yet, but there is literally not a single second of silence now when any kid is awake. He woke up after a nap and insisted on wearing his brother’s ‘ta-queen hat’.IMG_6141After saying goodbye  to our sweet friends, the Alberts, at their going away party the night before, it was a fun surprise to run into them at lunch the next day. The kids {including Kit!} got to play together one more time while Liz and I got to chat for a while. Luckily they’re moving to the Dominican Republic, so we’re already planning a trip to visit very soon! IMG_6147We loaded our car for one last trip to the beach. I brought along my go-to drink…club soda, lime and mint. Or as Emory calls it, ‘mommy’s ice cold water with leaves’. It’s so much better than drinking plain ‘ole water {blah!}.IMG_6149We met the family for pizza as soon as we got to the beach, and after pizza we always walk next door for ice cream at Kirk’s. I love the peanut butter chocolate ice cream, but mostly the kids go for the horsey ride. IMG_6161Until now, Boland only got to have a few bites of someone else’s ice cream, but he finally joined the ranks of ‘big kid’ with his very own cone this time! IMG_6162He was in heaven. And covered head-to-toe by the end, which almost gave me a heart attack.IMG_6163Emory decided she was having twins one morning. Her first ‘pretending to be pregnant’ scenario. She thought it was hilarious.IMG_6165We found a baby horseshoe crab on the beach.IMG_6167

And after a good, long, after-the-beach nap, Watson woke up with Rockadoodle hair. Proof that he didn’t move an inch while sleeping. He has the best bed head ever. IMG_6172

1. The comment on how exhausting Kit has been is hilarious. I see my future and it is scary.
2. I'm completely impressed that you sewed with knit! and the little details on the gown look perfect!
3. I'm glad I'm not the only one that is neurotic about not getting food all over clothes as we are eating...I strip E to eat most nights for fear that heaven forbid she stain an outfit. I need an intervention.
