Look fast, as this is the only proof we have of actually meeting Sally the Salamander! Both girls were terrified of her! Until she pulled down her mask just enough to reveal that he was Daddy/Mr. Vaughn, and then the girls were all smiles...but still wouldn't go near him...her...whatever.

So we quickly moved on to the sandboxes, where you could dig and dig and dig for little (plastic) salamanders...

...until you found the one that was black with yellow spots, just like Sally!

At which point you get to pick a prize. Emory's choice: a pink dum dum.

Here's Emory's sweet friend Callie (daughter of Sally the Salamander). Isn't she just the cutest thing ever?!?! And you can't even see the cutest part...her chunky little arms and legs that make you want to nibble on her!

Emory posed as Sally...

...although she wasn't so much into sticking her head into that little hole.

We colored for a bit...

...naming all the colors as we did...

And then the girls had had enough of the heat. They went from happy and cute, to hot and tired and grumpy FAST! So we loaded them back up in the strollers and walked down to Z Pizza for lunch. (For those of you in Columbia, it's a must try! Organic, made fresh, gluten free...and if you're lucky, the owner's adorable 6-week old son will be there too! His name is Owens. Tell him Erin and I said hello. We probably overwhelmed his very cute mommy by asking if we could babysit him for her. He was that cute.)
After lunch, we stopped by a few of the buildings on the "Sally the Salamander Tour". 10 historic buildings downtown make up the tour and can be identified by the small bronze salamander on the outside. It's a great little walking tour to learn about some historice places in the city...but Erin and I did it to burn some calories and tighten our butt muscles. :)
All that heat and walking...I'm off to take a nap!
