He's on the way.

Aaron and I are anxiously awaiting the birth of our first nephew, and Emory, her first cousin! Aaron's brother and his wife will welcome little David Robert sometime tomorrow (she's being induced).
I wanted to make him something extra special.
When Emory was born we were told we wouldn't be discharged from the hospital until Wednesday afternoon. We didn't have an outfit to bring her home in yet (we hadn't known the sex), so my mom was heading to find her something special first thing Wednesday morning, washing it and bringing it for us to leave. We were awakened (well Aaron was. I, on the other hand, was up all night with the baby!) by the on-call pediatrician at about 8:00am that morning letting us know we were cleared to go home. I was more than ready to get outta there, but that meant Emory would do without a special going home outfit. Not a huge deal, but something that still annoys me a little.
So, I decided to make an outfit (actually two, one boy and one girl, since we don't know the sex this go round either) for baby #2 to come home in.
Then I decided I wanted to start my own little tradition of making the same outfit for all of my nieces and nephews to come. Hopefully lots of them!
The pattern I chose was well beyond the difficulty of the patterns I normally sew (collars, piping, bound sleeves, etc), so it's definitely not perfect, but I am so happy with the way it turned out!

I added his teeny tiny monogram to the chest.

And I am absolutely in love with the little diaper covers! They button up the front...it makes them looks very vintage.

I washed it in Dreft tonight so it's good and ready for me to take to the hospital tomorrow. After almost 2 years, I've forgotten what it's like to fold itty bitty outfits that smell like baby detergent! It gets me excited for Number Two to get here!
Please say an extra prayer that little David Robert arrives safe and healthy tomorrow.
I'll be sure to post a few pictures to show him off!

Thanks Anne! It's Creations By Michie' #109 (Infant Shirt and Diaper Cover). The pattern has girl sleeves as well. Let me know what you think if you make it!
