Emory’s Thanksgiving Parade & Feast

While most of the other kids in her class chose pets or friends or toys to be thankful for, this is what I saw on the bulletin board outside Emory’s classroom when I arrived for her Thanksgiving festivities. {And her teacher swears she didn’t prompt her at all to say this!}01 The kids on the older hall donned their Pilgrim and Indian accessories and walked through the school for their Thanksgiving Parade. Emory was excited to have a drum to play as well!02 All of the 3’s had a homework assignment to choose an Indian name for themselves {and their family members} to use for the month. We told Emory that Indian names usually described the person and we came up with names by asking the questions, “What do they like to do?” and “What animal do they like?”.

After this fun assignment, the Dupree family now consists of:

Dancing Horse {Emory}, Walking Dog {Watson}, Sleeping Raccoon {Boland, because raccoons sleep during the day and are awake at night…brilliant!}, Working Bear {Daddy, because he goes to work and loves the Baylor Bears} and Lying Lizard {Mommy, because according to Emory, she likes to lie down and likes lizards. Funny.}. 03 After the 3’s Parade, they got to sit and watch the 4’s Parade.04 We enjoyed seeing a few of our ‘big girl’ friends!05 Then it was time to feast!06 They got to taste corn, turkey, ham, macaroni, cornbread, biscuits and pumpkin pie!07 After lunch, it was Emory’s favorite…puzzle time!08 If Emory isn’t playing dress-up at home, she’s working on a puzzle.09 Her teacher always tells me that she finishes her puzzle first, so she walks around and helps her friends finish theirs. Do they give college scholarships for exceptional puzzle-doers? Hope so.10 And at the end of such a fun day was a little sadness. Emory’s best little friend Sydney is moving and had her last day at school. 11 Each of the kids took turns drawing Sydney a happy face on a card.12 We’ve had a great time getting to know Sydney and her mommy and we’re definitely gonna miss them. They won’t be too far, so we’re hoping to get to see them occasionally still. 13

I love how excited she is about the drums-what a sweet girl!! And great job, mommy and daddy, that Em already knows what's really important to be thankful for!
