Emory’s First Soccer Practice

As I’ve confessed before, I’m a hater of all sports. Except college baseball. And as of today, preschool soccer.

We signed Emory up for soccer this season in hopes that she would be on a team with some of her school friends. After getting her pumped up about playing, the team we wanted to be on was full and we were moved to another team. I didn’t say much to Emory as to who she would be playing with, but she definitely went into the first practice expecting to see some friends.

This weekend we went out and bought all of her gear. Cleats {pink of course!}, shin guards, socks, shorts and a pink soccer ball.

I was teaching and couldn’t get off work to take her to her first practice {we’ll pretend I didn’t shed a few tears}, grandmamma got Emory dressed in her soccer clothes. My hairbow-loving girl refused to wear a bow to soccer, because ‘childrens don’t wear bows to practice, mama!’, but I think she still managed to look adorable. :)

She kicked the ball around a little in the backyard and then Daddy picked her up to head to the fields. image The kicking pictures are my favorite!

She was amazed that the shin guards protected her and kept asking Watson to hit her legs!DSC_0333 image DSC_0350 She and Daddy got to the fields and found her team. Aaron said they first went around and introduced themselves, and as the other kids were saying their names she kept looking up whispering ‘Daddy this is not my class!’ as she realized these weren’t the kids she thought she was on a team with. {again-pretend there were no tears upon hearing this. heart wrenching.} They quickly got paired up to kick the ball around, and as soon as she was paired with her new teammate, Isabella, she was good to go! Daddy got a little video footage of our budding soccer star.

They also got to take turns dribbling the ball down the field and kicking it through the cones. According to Aaron, she did quite well. When they got home, she walked in the door beaming and telling me how much fun she had. I’m not quite sure she’ll stick with it forever, but she seemed to have had lots of fun. We’ll see how she feels at the first game when there are 12 other kids chasing after the same ball!

Way to go Baby Girl! We’re so proud of you for trying something new and making brand new friends!
