We spent the weekend at the lake with my mom’s side of the family. The kids {Watson especially} loved playing on the four wheelers {which he called ‘tractors’} and in the boats. Side note: Emory didn’t have a change of clothes on hand {well she did, they just couldn’t be found} this particular afternoon so she’s wearing Watson’s 2T t-shirt and Boland’s 6-12m shorts. It fit her just fine. holy cow. We celebrated the Fourth by the pool with the aunts and {soon-to-be} uncles. Our neighbors brought us a huge bag of fresh peaches, so we whipped up some peach daiquiris. yum.
Boland,
Emory and Daddy,
And Watson {and Mickey} enjoyed swimming.
After the long weekend of celebrating, I hit the ground running in preparation for Emory’s birthday party. First on my t0-do list was making a piñata. Yes, you can buy them {and I SO should have} but I couldn’t find one that looked the way I wanted, so I channeled my 7th grade Advanced Art self and set out to make my own dragon piñata.
Approximately 33 days before her fourth birthday I got tired of Emory asking me ‘how many days time my party, mama?’ so we sat down and made a paper chain to count down the days. Each day she takes one link off then counts the remaining links to figure out how many days are left. Good counting practice for her and she doesn’t ask me the same question 84,000 times a day. Win-win. {Today we took off the fifth link…only four more days until she’s four!}
As I’ve mentioned before, we’re in a food rut ‘round these parts. I’ve been trying to be creative and these silly smile snacks were a hit with them. And super simple for me. Two apple slices. Five mini marshmallows. Stick it on a toothpick. {Thanks for thinking I’m awesomely awesome to come up with this, but I didn’t. I saw the idea somewhere, just can’t remember where!}
I left the kids with a babysitter and snuck out three mornings {3!} to run errands. Fun birthday party errands and boring errands I’ve been putting off forever. While cleaning out a purse I found an old {as in from Valentine’s Day} Starbucks gift card. I’ve been really good about cutting back on the quick trips to Starbucks {for my wallet and my waist} but I allowed myself an iced caramel macchiato with my newfound gift card. And because I was heading to Walmart and needed something to ease the pain of having to step foot in that horrific place.
Most every afternoon this week we’ve had a big storm. With the huge picture windows in the new house, it’s kinda neat to watch as the sky turns dark and it begins to pour. It does, however, totally screw up the rest of the day as all I can think about is crawling in bed to take a nap.
Which is why we’ve had this toy tornado sitting in the living all day everyday.
And this kid? Yes, he’s been signed to play college football at the age of {almost} 8 months. Does he not look humongous? I’m seriously gonna put him on a diet.
Emory attended a three day cheer camp at Carolina with the real cheerleaders and LOVED it. She has walked around the house ever since day one chanting ‘garnet and black. let’s {clap clap} go!’ She now thinks she 14 and should wear a ribbon in her hair like the big girls. Sheesh.
And look who learned to clap! I don’t recall either Emory or Watson being so entertained by their own clapping. Boland thinks it’s the funniest {and most fun} thing ever.
The end…til the next Insta-Friday!
