The story went something like this:
Daddy: We should get the kids a slip-n-slide.
Mommy: No, those are really dangerous.
Daddy: No they’re not. We all had ‘em as kids and we’re just fine.
Mommy: Well, they’re also like $40 and that’s a lot for something that’s potentially dangerous anyway.
Discussion ended, probably due to someone needing a diaper change or toy or meal.
Mommy goes to Walmart {read: most dreaded place ever!} and spots a slip-n-slide on clearance for $2. Mommy purchases, because things seem less dangerous the cheaper they are. {Everyone would skydive if it were like 30 bucks, right?}
Fast forward to the after noon after Watson had a little run-in with the concrete lion statue in Grandmamma and Granddaddy’s backyard, sending us to the doctor thinking his leg was broken. He needed a little pick-me-up so we pulled out the slip-n-slide.
The kids loved it!
It was fun to play in the ‘sprinklers’ on the side.
Watson’s leg clearly wasn’t broken, and he ran around like a crazy person in the yard.
There was a lot of slippin’ and slidin’ …although most of it was accidental. I think the danger mostly lies in kids running across it and not realizing how slippery it is.
I quickly realized why ‘the kids’ needed a slip-n-slide as Daddy showed them how to do it.I conceded. The kids enjoyed it and it didn’t seem much more dangerous than just running around in the yard normally.
I left them playing to make a quick run to the grocery store for a few items for dinner.
They played and played and played.
But I came home to sad news.
After a mere two hours, our beloved slip-n-slide left us. As in totally busted. All of the water flooded out and the slip-n-slide quickly became a long piece of lifeless plastic.
The kids were bummed {although I think Aaron was more so}, but were quickly distracted by popsicles. I believe that’s the end of our slip-n-slide adventures for a while. At least until we’ll shell out $40 bucks for a ‘good one’. Luckily we were only out $2. I guess you get what you pay for!
