We packed up the family and headed up to the mountains of North Carolina for a few days. Aunt Boo and Uncle Alex joined us, too! We had a few thing on the agenda, but mostly wanted to relax and enjoy the change of scenery. It was very strange to me to witness the kids’ reactions. I grew up going to this same spot, as my grandparents had a house just outside of this area, and being in the mountains was as familiar as being at the beach. On the drive up this weekend, when we hit our first stretch of driving through the mountain range, the two big kids actually gasped. It wasn’t until then that it occurred to me that they had never seen a mountain! They were in awe of the rock mountains, grass mountains and tree mountains. Emory asked me multiple times what the ‘holes’ were, and it was a little difficult trying to explain what a valley is to a four-year-old. Just looking around could’ve kept the kids’ attention for the full trip, but we ventured out and did some other stuff, too.
We were staying in the town of Blowing Rock, named for an actual rock in the area, so we ventured out to the Blowing Rock.
There were trails we planned on walking, but it was super windy and cold, so we stuck close to the rock and the kids enjoyed playing.
They climbed and climbed and climbed.
I tried really hard to not FREAK OUT thinking they were about to fall off the side of the mountain…
Having the extra set of adults came in quite handy during this outing!
There was a small garden that the kids could run around in {and climb on things!}…I tried for a picture of the three of them…
And I actually would have been happy with it had Emory not been doing some weird, mouse smile all the sudden!
Someone had his fill of sitting still…
And wanted to continue climbing instead.
I snapped a few pictures of Emory…
And as soon as she got down, Watson shouted, ‘my turn!’. He loves to pose lately!
We left and headed downtown to walk around and grab a bite to eat. A little rain shower came through as we ate lunch, and luckily cleared up just in time for us to grab ice cream {at Kilwin’s! Yum!} and walk to the park to play for a bit. We headed back to the house to put Boland down for a nap, and Daddy and Uncle Alex took the big kids fishing! And after a day full of fun, everybody came back home to watch the Gamecocks take home a win against the Tigers!
