Emory’s Last Day of School

Hard to believe her 4K year has come to an end!

While her first day {and first few weeks} of school were a little rough, she’s clearly gained some confidence over the past nine months! imageWe never quite got used to the early start {thank goodness it’s okay to be a little late in 4K!}, but most everything else about her ‘new’ school became quite easy once the school year got going. Uniforms made the mornings much simpler. She learned to get in and out of the car {mostly} on her own for carpool. We figured out how to pack ‘green’ lunches for her school’s no-trash policy. And while she missed her friends from preschool like crazy {and we made sure to see them lots and lots outside of school}, she made plenty of new friends.

Scholastically, I was really happy with everything they learned to do. Heading into summer she’s beginning to sound out and spell words. Reading is just around the corner!! Basic math skills are starting to make a little more sense to her, and she’s starting to really understand the ‘why’s’ of things. Why we celebrate Easter. Why rainbows show up after it rains. Why it’s better to eat healthy foods rather than candy and junk. It’s been a great year all around!image

Even though we won’t be changing schools, we have the big transition from half-day to full-day as we head into kindergarten this fall. I know there will be a big adjustment period at first, but I also know it will quickly become our ‘normal’, just like this year.

Way to go, Baby Girl, on a wonderful first year of big school!!
