Emory woke up bright and early ready to wear her Alice costume to school today!
Not only did they have their class party, but the school sets up a walk around a few side streets so that the kids on the older hall can trick-or-treat with their friends. Parents volunteer to dress up and handout candy along the walk.
Armed with a painkiller and a $2.10 witch hat from Target, I joined the fun.
I dropped Baby Girl off at her class. She was a little ticked that she couldn’t wear her black “Alice” shoes to school {since they were told to wear comfy shoes for the walk} and was sulking for a good part of the car ride.
Ms. Vickie had been talking with them about trick-or-treating all week, and you could tell the kids were super excited to see their friends in costume and couldn’t wait to start!
I was handing out candy towards the end of the walk so by the time Emory’s class got to me they had bags full of candy and huge smiles on their faces.
But some of them were tired of the crowd of mommies shoving cameras in their faces.
{Funny side note: About 90% of the girls at Emory’s preschool also take dance and know me from the studio. As the kids rounded the corner heading toward where I was standing I kept hearing “Look! I think I see Ms. Amy! That witch has a baby in her tummy!”}
On the way back to their classroom, each class stopped for a group picture. Emory and Sydney {Alice and the Cupcake} had stayed out way past their bedtimes last night at the EdVenture Halloween party, and you could tell the only thing keeping them going was their excitement. Althea and Emma{the Ballerina and the Ladybug} seemed excited about their loot too!
Ms. Vickie’s Three’s
If there is such a thing as a “best friend” at three years old, this is definitely Emory’s. We absolutely adore little Sydney and they are joined at the hip when they’re together.
The class headed back in to start their party!
Myself and a couple of other moms stayed to help out {really we just wanted to be able to take pictures!} and it was funny to see what the kids are made to do for themselves. Everyone wore their regular clothes underneath their costumes {except Emory because she said that “Alice doesn’t do that”} and had to take their costumes off and put them in their cubbies. They went to the bathroom and washed their hands, then sat down at their place at the table. Once the blessing was said and they began eating, they had to take off the cupcake wrapper themselves. After they ate, they threw their plate in the trash, got a wipe to clean their hands and mouth and wiped their space at the table. As easy as all of that is, it was so hard to not help them out to make things go quicker! Independence is a big part of what they learn in the Three’s and if you have a little patience, it’s amazing how much they will do for themselves.
Ms. Vickie always tells me that Emory doesn’t ever finish her snack or lunch because she eats so slow and runs out of time. I wonder where she gets that from?!?!?
After the party was over, the class headed out onto the playground and the mommies were ushered out for the last hour and a half of preschool. After such a fun morning, I knew Emory was gonna crash hard once she got home, and I would need yet another magic pill and a long time on the heating pad, but it was so very worth it to get to witness Emory and her little friends enjoying the festivities!
