About a week before the doctor advised me to stay off of my feet, we sent out invitations to some little friends from school and dance for a Halloween party. I tried my best to convince Emory to let us wait and have a Christmas party instead, but she wasn’t to fond of that idea. So on we pressed to put together some semblance of a party, although what we ended up with was much less than our original plans, sadly.
We had the house decorated and ready for our friends to arrive.Emory was dressed and ready in her Alice in Wonderland costume, and oh-so-excited to see each friend as they arrived.
Watson wasn’t quite as enthused about all these people invading his territory.
First we started with a craft. We strung beads to make a pumpkin necklace.
The original party plans included having tables set up with the crafts set out, which would have made things much more organized {and less messy!}, but we made due. The downside, however, is that I’m still finding tons of little plastic beads everywhere in my den!
Then we played and had some Halloween treats. We made some fun sweets, including boo brownies, candy corn bark, and candy corn cupcakes!
I’m not quite sure the daddies of these two would approve of them playing with the pink cups and kitchen toys, but they were very entertained by practicing their culinary skills!
Aunt Jo came to paint faces and hands.
Then we sat down for another craft. We glued faces on our felt ghosts. The ghosts were intended to be for decoration, but most of the kiddos thought they were just as useful as puppets. I loved seeing that some ghosts had 3 or 4 eyes and multiple mouths!
Then we played some more. Watson enjoyed some time with his little girlfriend, Eliza. She is just a day younger than him and Eliza’s mommy and I were in the hospital together last year. They have loved playing together each week while Emory and Rosie are in dance class.
Last, we sent each little home with a goody bag they filled with spooky treats…Halloween playdoh, ghost lollipops, spooky candy necklaces, spider rings, teddy graham-filled pumpkin cups and vampire teeth.
Emory especially enjoyed her vampire teeth! She sat at the door {after her costume change…from Alice to Jasmine} waiting for Daddy to get home so she could scare him.
While everything wasn’t perfect and I didn’t get to do a lot of what I had originally planned, I think little ones had a good time. I love seeing how excited Emory gets about seeing her friends {and how sad she was when she realized some of who she invited weren’t able to come!} and that in itself was worth being laid up on the couch with pain killers and a heating pad for the rest of the night!
