While Halloween is one of my most favorite holidays, I have to confess that I do not enjoy trick-or-treating! The kids got to participate in a ton of fun Halloween events this year, and we enjoyed each one, but I was dreading the actual trick-or-treating on the big night.
I guess having low expectations made for a nice surprise, because we ended up having a blast!
Alice in Wonderland and The White Rabbit started their night early with a visit to Grandmamma and Granddaddy’s house.
{Yes, it’s probably pregnancy hormones, but seeing these two walking hand-in-hand to the front door-looking so old!- brings tears to my eyes. Please stop growing!}”Emory totally got the concept of going door-to-door, saying “trick-or-treat”, then getting candy this year and it was fun to see her so excited. But in true Emory-fashion, she got a little shy when she got to the door and forgot what to do.
On the other hand, Watson had no clue what he was supposed to do, but I think he could smell that there was something edible on the other side of the door, and surprisingly he enjoyed the trick-or-treating as well!
He got excited and left his ‘pocket watch’ behind.
Apparently getting candy from the grandparents is so last generation because both sets had fun {non-candy} treats waiting for the kids. While I think the kids are spoiled enough and need not-one-more thing, I appreciated a few less candy bars or gummy bears in their candy bags.
Of course, Baby Boy can’t go more then five minutes without a snack, so he did dig into a few edible treats too.
Next we headed to visit Mimi and Papa.
Emory was playing her shy card {hence the hand in the mouth} and Watson had already spotted Harley, so they were not in the mood for posing.
After a quick hello, we headed out to hit a few more houses in Mimi and Papa’s neighborhood.
I couldn’t believe Watson was getting candy like a big boy! And Emory was being so very polite and letting him dig in first!
Baby Girl was having such a wonderful time!
After declaring “Look! I have so much candy!” after only three houses, we gladly called it a night and headed back to Mimi and Papa’s for dinner. First, we had to inventory our loot.
And we even got to have a little taste before dinner! Emory was glued to the front door waiting on other trick-or-treaters to come by.
We’re not excited about taking down all of our ghosts and spiders and candy corns around the house, but we had a wonderfully fun final night of Halloween celebration!

I love the one of them waiting at the front door (#100) together. They're so cute, and they got so much wear out of their costumes! Yay. Happy Halloween from the Helfers!
So cute, so cute!! And I'm very impressed by Watson's trick or treating skills! I'm sad about taking down our Halloween decorations, too, but that just means we need to find some cute Thanksgiving crafts!
