If, in the last month or so, you’ve asked Emory what’s gonna happen on her birthday, she’d first shout, “I havin’ a party at Leapin’ Lizards!”.
If you asked, “what else?”, she’d say “and I givin’ all my pacis to a baby dat not have any pacis!”. Granted, she’d do it with a little pouty face, but she knew that when she turned three she would be a Big Girl and couldn’t have her pacifier anymore.
Well, tonight was the night.
Knowing the day was upon us, all afternoon she’s said, “but I not four yet!”, as if to trick us into thinking our deal was for her fourth birthday instead of third. {She’s sly!}
But after a bath and putting on jammies, we gathered our wrapping supplies and pacifiers. I could only put my hands on six of her pacis and I know she probably has at least 4 more that are floating around the house, so it should be interesting to see what happens if she finds them over the next couple of weeks.
She kissed each paci as she put it in the box.
The last one got one last “suck”…
…and even a snuggle with Douglas!
We wrapped the box and she helped me tape it up.
She was excited about putting on the “strings” and tying the bow.
She hugged the box, but the excitement of having helped wrapped the present made her forget that she had just enclosed six of her favorite sleeping buddies! She is under the impression that the box is being delivered to the new babies at the hospital that don’t have any pacis yet. :)
She climbed into bed, read a book with Daddy and said her prayers. She was tucked in with both of her Douglas’ and no paci! She didn’t even ask for it! Tonight may be a rough one, but I’m sure after a few night, tops, she’ll be 100% paci-free!
Way to go Emory! We’re so proud of you for acting like such a big girl!
Night 1 Update: First night was a success! She didn’t wake up at all asking for it, and even slept in a little! Let’s hope it isn’t just beginner’s luck!
Nights 2 & 3 Update: Looks like the big change was easier than we thought! So far she’s had no trouble sleeping without it, and hasn’t really even mentioned it when going to bed. Naps have been a little shorter, but I’m not so sure that’s a paci issue so much as an “I’m a big girl now and big girls don’t take naps!” issue. Looks like losing our paci friends was much easier than we all anticipated!

I saw that idea somewhere and think it is perfect. Emory looks so excitied knowing that the paci's are going to other little babies. She's so pretty!
Oh that sweet face! Emory looked like she did very well, with parting with her paci's. She got a year longer, then my kids and grandkids did. Shortly after their 2nd birthday's, ours either left their paci's to Santa or the Easter bunny, to give to babies, and in return got a special gift. We have video's of my grandson, leaving his out with the cookies for Santa, and like Emory, he had to pick it up, and give it one more suck, before laying it down. He went to bed that night, and never asked for it again. Like a lot of things, they just become habit, more then need. Danny did look at babies in stores with paci's, and point, and we used to tell him what a big boy he was to give his paci to the babies, and he would smile, proudly!
Emory looked so adorable at her party, having fun with her friend "Quiet"! To cute, Boy's got good taste in pretty girls!
A Happy Birthday Emory!
Hugs!

This is so sweet. She is officially a big girl. (and now maybe will be proud to admit it!) Love the update. I've been wondering all day. :)
Okay now, she is going to have to influence her cousin Olin!!! We are still using his for sleep time! Good idea of giving them away. Tell Emory that we are very very proud (and jealous) of her:)
"I not a big girl, Ima little girl" haha so sad shes growing up so fast! good job Emory!! love you!
Great job Emory! You certainly are a "Big Girl" now, and you have made a lot of tiny babies very happy. Maybe Mommy will let you pick out a new paci, for your new baby brother or sister, in a couple of months.
Hugs sweetheart!
