Emory’s Big Girl Haircut

Emory had a “mullet trim” at about 18 months, but hasn’t  been back to see Ms. Kelly until today. Her hair had gotten long, which I loved, but the ends were a little stringy, so we headed in for a summer trim. I took Emory with me this morning to my hair appointment so she could see what it was like…and, most importantly, that it doesn’t hurt. I kept reminding her she was gonna get her hair cut too at the end of the day, and when the time came, she was actually very excited to be there and jumped right up in the chair. I told Ms. Kelly I wanted to keep the length but clean up the ends a little. Turns out the bottom three inches was baby hair, and she said she would need to take all of it off to get a “clean” look. My heart sank, but she assured me it would grow back quickly and look thicker as it does. I bit the bullet and told her to cut!

I told Emory she had to keep her head still or it would mess up her hair.  I think that actually frightened her a little, and she sat absolutely frozen the entire time.IMG_1697 Starred Photos151The first cut {in the back} made me sad, but my stomach was actually in pain as she trimmed around her face. Her hair barely brushed her shoulders…wet! IMG_1703She finished the cut, stuck the bow back in {Emory told her “I need my bow now.”}, then dried the ends a little. Emory didn’t move her head at all, but made a face that looked like  someone was torturing her!IMG_1709 I think I need a week or so to digest this transition into big-girl-ness, as this new cut makes her look so old! She loves it and kept saying, “look at my new hair cut!” to everyone all night. I absolutely love to see her grow and learn new things, but a piece of my heart breaks every time I realize she’s not a baby anymore! Starred Photos150

Aww! What a big girl! Maybe she can let Jack know that it really doesn't hurt to get your hair cut! She looks too cute, and I'm sure it'll be long again in no time!

Absolutely beautiful Miss Emory! You are as pretty as they come, and such a big girl. It is still long enough for maybe little pig tails. This sweetheart would look cute, no matter how she wore her hair, and the cut will help thicken it up. At least Emory was happy with it, and didn't do the "drama queen" act, which my granddaughter has done on many an occasions. Wait until she's 10, going on 16! God Bless!
